“I Am Woman”

I heard this song on the radio yesterday for the first time since I was very young, I loved Helen Reddy and most of her songs even during my teens. I got tears in my eyes from the powerful words and the way she sings it just adds to the powerfulness of it all. It certainly has a different meaning since childhood! I’ve been through so much since the safety of my parents’ home, that when I heard this on the radio it hit me like a ton of bricks, a survivor is what I became in life, and being a woman has not been easy. With choices of men, raising children alone, taking care of my grandmother, daddy and mama in their last days and being saved through the blood of Jesus Christ in 1999, again falling on my face to my own shame and now climbing back into his Grace, having achieved a one-year anniversary at my job at the church just last month, (the job was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done for medical reasons.) This song hit me like crazy and here I share it, as powerful as it is!

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back and pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever going to keep me down again

Whoa, yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
‘Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I’ll come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

Whoa, yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

I am woman, watch me grow
See me standing toe-to-toe
As I spread my loving arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Whoa, yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
